WINTER HAVEN - Mr. Charles Forrest Bybee, age 90, of Winter Haven, FL died of natural causes Wednesday (Sept. 15, 2010) at Lifecare Center of Winter Haven, FL.
He was born in Davis County, Iowa, May 28, 1920, the son of Pearl J. and Cecil Zellers Bybee. He graduated from Moulton High School in Moulton, Iowa in 1938 and from the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, DC in 1948.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sadie Stafford Bybee; one son Robert D. Bybee of Suburban Atlanta, GA; one stepdaughter Carol Emery of Lake Wales, FL; favorite nephew Reed Thompson and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his first wife Frances Mehann Bybee in 2000 and his parents, one sister Hope Bybee Sellers, and two brothers Clint E. and J. Robert (Bob) Bybee.
He was employed by the Bybee Brothers Grocery in Moulton, Iowa until he enlisted in the US Army early in WWII. He served as a radio operator in the Signal Corps on the Canol Project in the Northwest Territories, Canada and later in a Signal Corps Intelligence Unit. Before retirement he was employed by the Western Electric Company, IBM, and for twenty five years by the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington.
He wrote and published a memoir and genealogical history of the Bybee family, entitled "One Man's Family," in 1995; he also published a volume of his poetry, "Life Is A Poem" in 2002. A number of his poems and writings have been printed in newspapers and national anthologies. He is listed in Who's Who in America.
Memorial Services to be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Spring Haven Retirement Home, 1225 Havendale Blvd. NW, Winter Haven, FL.
